futureboogie open their 2017 account with a new release from lizards, the newcastle based duo otherwise known as lee forster and james hadfield. after appearances on labels like leng records, join our club and not an animal records, lizards strut their stuff across two original tracks, whilst man of the moment lord of the isles weighs in with a superb remix. the percussion driven house of “tzatziki” kicks of the release, wrapped in warm and inviting pads and piano riffs. shades of old school chicago house meet sun-kissed balearic vibes on this early morning riser, as the heavyweight bass sounds curl around the raw drum programming and illuminating keys sprinkle over the production. on “aloof”, the tempo is taken down somewhat, as a bass line wanders over a steady kick and otherworldly ambient sounds and hushed vocal clips lazily glide over the 4/4 arrangement. as the track unfurls, more melodic and percussive elements come into play, blossoming into a something quite epic and unique. with a slew of releases for quality imprints like permanent vacation, firecracker, mule musiq and esp institute, neil mcdonald, aka lord of the isles, serves up a deliciously chugging version of aloof. gurgling bass and marching handclaps are dowsed in dramatic synth sweeps and glacial tones, as the good lord takes us on a monumental ride.

fresh off of a pair of well-received eps on his recently-launched manhigh imprint, berlins highly respected techno auteur henning baer makes his first appearance on nonplus with 4 excellently crafted, saturated machine techno tracks on the idea of instinct. following on feelings suggested in the title, the ep opens with a pair of more contemplative pieces: the title track’s spare arrangement puts mechanical rhythmic drive behind its exploration of dusky electronic atmospheres, while the feeling of dna is both brighter and slightly pacier, its hypnosis deriving from the pads and synthesizer sequences that circle the drums. ccc ii takes a darker approach to a similar idea, this time with the suggestion of polyrhythms in the distant and heavily-treated percussive elements circling in the background behind uneasy ambience. it builds to the closer spiritual quest, where overlaid rhythms in 3 and 4 are not easily reducible and create the tension at the track’s centre driving it to its conclusion.

grebenstein is a producer, dj and visual artist living in kassel, germany. after playing in several bands as a drummer and guitarist he made his solo-debut with a 4-track ep on the regis helmed label downwards records in november 2014. the gloss 4 track ep for horo comes after his downwards records follow up strong, proud, stupid, & superior with seefried was released in october 2016. title track gloss centres on percussive crescendos and pensive guitar layers, while self and its version stretch this effect out into a grinding, slow motion introspection. loss closes the ep with serrated drum machine blasts punctuating feedback contortions. the tension throughout the ep is palpable, with the shaping of the tension providing the substance of his signature style. non club tracks for open minded clubs.

we are very happy excited to reveal to you the next installment of alfresco disco records. seka is a close friend and has played and raved at many of the alfresco disco parties. not only a great selector, here he clearly demonstrates he is no slouch in the studio either. from his studio in the heart of bristol, seka has used an analogue approach and his trusty mpc to carve out three satisfying, sample heavy house cuts that are unique and full of character. on the remix duties we enlisted the portugese maestro tiago, a resident at the brilliant lux club in lisbon who brings a live, percussive vibe to the release. enjoy!

halocyan outlines computer musics many future possibilities, while remaining actively mindful of its one and only history. having released material from such luminaries as dosem, paul woodford, oliver ho, extrawelt, and joey beltram - halocyan continues to assert its influence with their next record: a 2-part ep from apollo and r&s affiliate dave angel. founder of rotation records and originally hailing from chelsea, angel is a techno emissary whose intelligent, funk-licked productions have propelled him through a long and illustrious career through which he has consistently branded his own stamp on electronic music whilst also remaining highly relevant to modern listeners. it’s this that lends him perfectly to a record with halocyan who do what they do best in presenting his incoming ep: a sincerely-rooted collection that comes backed up by label favourite hackman on remix duties. portrait kicks things off with jubilant melodies rippling atop sharp, whetted percussion before minor-key sweeps bleed in and bring with them a degree of pensive tension. a buoyant bass line propels the track from dave angel incoming ep beneath before hackman offers up a deftly swung revision rich with his sturdy subs and idiosyncratic percussive flutters.

repress 2017 , allez! as the curtains come down on another crazy summer of love, apollonia drop their latest release courtesy of io mulen - the ukranian rude boy who appeared on the label at the beginning of the year with ‘unknown to the unknown’. he’s back with a hefty six-track package which is sure to please his fans, and win him a whole new army of supporters. we get straight to business with the first track, ‘rdm37’, one of those trusty apollonia bouncing bombs. skittish beats work off a sublime groove, while io keeps the background full of interesting sounds, boings, cheeps and all manner of whimsical effects, introducing more and more as the track progresses. by the midpoint you’re so gripped by the track that your whole body is moving uncontrollably, super glued to the rhythm. next up, it’s ‘xdt54’ coming through with a deep, persuasive bassline that jigs around in the low end luring you into its web. simple, polished percussive elements keep things moving at a pace while subtle keys and barely-there vocals add further layers to this catchy little number. the third track in on this lengthy ep is ‘mpc13’, a walk on the sensual side. vocal snippets are interspersed among sultry pads, skipping four to the floor beats and a sleazy b-line to create a delectable slice of dance floor naughtiness. this one flirts with you as it writhes around, taking you ever deeper…four tracks in we have ‘zgb41’, another alluring cut that has all the hallmarks of a deep house classic. those shimmering pads, a bassline that feels like it was born in nineties chicago, diamond-cut beats and a general feeling of what we would call ‘true house music’. there’s soul, there’s funk and there’s realness, what more can you ask for?ypt58’ keeps us locked in to that hypnotic groove with an insistent b-line holding things down - together with the infectious rhythm cultivated by the drum arrangement, it’s a killer combo. put those together with the smooth atmospherics plus synth lines staggering in and out of the background and you’ve got yourself a roller. last but definitely not least is ‘zxy22’, a wistful slice of technoid funk which has a delicate melody at its foundation. as it develops we get sucked in to layer upon layer of beauty, from the analogue low end to the electric guitar riff – each layer complementing the other and creating a symphony of sounds that acts as a perfect way to close out the ep and will no doubt end plenty of dj sets, when it’s released. so monsieur io (mulen) returns to apollonia with an instant classic, make sure you snap it up right away. magnifique!

london/lisbon label release/sustain start the year as they mean to go on. presenting a 4 track various artists 12’’ titled _nightfall and other stories_. the record is comprised of 4 artists the label regard as legends of that deeper dance floor sound. opening proceedings on a1 is *dekmantel* mainstay *vakula*. a regular at the release/sustain ‘conclave’ parties and part of the rs family his offering, _809,_ is a percussive drum tool trip of a track, with sporadic raw percussion shooting shining across a positively minimalist backing. for a2, we see italian stalwart of underground dance music, *l.i.e.s* & *crème organization* regular, *simoncino*. obscure sample work, and a repeating line ‘i can use a friend’, twist and turn over rugged, thumping, functional drums and bass. simoncino at his best! furthering the quality of this standout 12’’ is chicago house music pioneer, and *dance mania* alumini *vincent floyd*. rich in melody and familiar classic house sounds, reggie’s soft jacking house sound bring a silky smooth, north american touch to a previously rugged, european 12 slab of wax. rounding things off we have *clone*, *prime numbers* & *deep explorer* badman, *reggie dokes*. a cut riddled with percussive and quirky undertones enjoy!

ypy is the work of osaka based koshiro hino. having recently released on labels such as nous, his own label birdfriend, and the legendary em records koshiro now presents the 7 track lp 2020 for where to now? records. the lp leads with the slow building, off kilter title track 2020,where flurries of eastern horns skitter beneath evolving layers of wonked yet beautifully balanced percussive movements, coming off like a technoid homage to the fourth world works of eno & hassel. as is the case with much of hinos music, as the piece develops it takes on heavier and heavier modes of experimentation and excitement turbines whirr and fizz alongside layers and layers of percussion, constantly teetering on the edge of no-wave breakdown whilst never losing sight of the rhythmic backbone, recouping from every moment of collapse with total grace.

both camelia and the sports label step into the light for the first time with an ambitious double-pack release that promises much for the future. praxis is a stunning ambient piece that opens the record with glacial drones and subtle ripples of percussive sound before syntax locks things down to a crisp minimal house groove laced with eerie atmospherics. mihai poi meanwhile goes to town on a long form remix on the b side, turning syntax into a warm and playful thing. camelia does her own lengthy turn with the title track on side c, and then sublee drops a snappy electro version as the finishing move on side d.

charlotte is a friend of deewee’s. she sings in both english & french. this e.p was written in collaboration between charlotte and bolis pupul then produced by the dewaele brothers (soulwax / 2manydjs) at deewee in ghent. cont… new release information a brief rundown on the tracks… ‘1.618’ arrives somewhere between a futurist song and a cosmic disco sound. it twists and turns. ‘senegal seduction’ is a slow melodic ride. ‘je m’appelle charlotte’. ‘le froid’ is a percussive vocal dub piece. charlotte’s vocals turned inside then out again. ‘celle’ is a song addressed to a father and a heartbeat to finish.

dj koze comes up to task for the next re-construction of michael mayer & joe goddards for you, following up from the re-interpretation by diynamics solomun and pachanga boys. the maverick of flawless productions develops two narratives for this remix package: the first is a club mix composed of layered, floor-raising chords while ruffling up the original vocals gradually and elegantly. the second is a mbira remix, filled with african-inspired percussive inklings and sprinkled with effortless melodic flourishes. with two accompanying instrumental versions, dj koze takes us to the final curtain, closing the end chapter to michael mayers acclaimed & project.

we continue the orb’s sin in space remix ep series with a third volume focussing on the duo’s latest full-length, the highly acclaimed cow / chill out, world! (kompakt 354 cd 134). the spontaneous, organic vibe and sample artistry of the album is reflected in three distinct reworks from highly respected kompakt mainstays the field, dave dk and jÖrg burger - all of them informed with surprising twists and displaying a clear lineage to the source material. the field’s remix of 9 elms over river eno takes the original s percussive part and unfolds it to a swirling, tropical epic that alludes as much to the orb s multifaceted sound collages as it does to the hypnotic, looping flow of the field s own output. meanwhile, dave dk turns in a club-friendly revamp of 4am exhale with the fittingly titled accellerator mix, indulging in exquisitely lyrical glitches and the magic of the straight bassdrum. jÖrg burger takes a shot at the beatless 5th dimensions with the excellent dschungeloper mix - its loose pop jam feeling and flirty shuffle rhythm recall burger’s lush lounge core efforts under his triola monicker.

hotflush welcome lara wehbie aka blursome to the ranks with her debut ep “rendition of you”. raised in north carolina and currently residing in brooklyn, wehbie has come a long way since beginning to work on music in 2011 as a way of channeling her diagnosed depression and anxiety. she describes her work as a transitional darkness, something she says defined her sound even before she could manage the software she uses to make it. in her own words, “rendition of you ep signifies major transitions in my life over the past year and how my environment truly played a role in handling situations. it s a testament to how much happier i am now than i used to be. i still struggle but i m truly thankful for the influences i have around me that have made me a better individual and artist.” along the way she has attended the red bull music academy bass camp in 2015, and after an appearance on scuba s 2016 fabric mix, she debuts on the label with an experimental six track ep. side a of -rendition of you- introduces listeners to her experimental use of vocals and heavy percussive influences from the left field genre. side b dives straight into dance floor material with pounding kicks and and interjecting vocals, but then slowly winds down into a more melancholic ending with piercing synths rattling through to the last drop.

tresor’s newest release features bnjmn on body reflections pt. 1. the four track ep captures a uniquely subdued mood that resides at the nexus of ambient dance music, and that integrates seamlessly with tresor’s penchant for restrained and dub-inflected techno. each track on the ep introduces symmetry and rhythm in the form of organic percussion. “overskies- and “enceladus- are more lethargic and ethereal, each blanketed with discordant melodies and arcing synth lines. -hadal zone- is more dance-oriented - here, a sophisticated interplay of percussive elements loop over plaintive vocals and soft harmonies. “syzygy- then brings the ep to a techno-focused close with driving kicks, oscillating synths, and repeating minor chords. body reflections pt. 1 is deeply illustrative of bnjmn’s affinity for creating nuanced and delicately balanced layers, and a culmination of his vast experience.

vlad dinu opens mihai bravu s 1st release starting the audio journey with deep in my house, a track that occupies the entire a side, just like a proper tool should. as the name of the track hints, we find ourselves submerged in deep territory: a tight and groovy bass line, laced with a steady percussion, sprinkled with some 16bit arcade reminiscent accents and soothing intermingled vocal cuts. the deep vibe is crafty perpetuated by several synths at play, which together combine in such a way to add a wide atmospheric feel to the composition. definitely deep in my house sounds and feels more like of a 90’s tune, and while listening to it, one could easily find himself drift into the nostalgia of the good old days.
side b goes even deeper with two tracks defined by the notion of head tracks. gun zah continues the storyline with twisty percussive rhythms and a groovy atmosphere, tailored into a bangin floor choon while questions answered submerges the listener into layers of groovy basslines, swifty percs and milky synths, all put together into the form of a most alive track.

in the fourth modern cathedrals release, altstadt echo crafts three original works with a focus on experimentation with broken beat structures and grainy percussive texture, against a backdrop of austere atmospheres. varg contributes a remix that emphasizes the despairing tones of the descent, contrasted with glistening treble percussion and and stumbling bass. to end the release, evigt mörker offers an extended hypnotic version of the track that slowly develops from a functional framework into an atmospheric drift. the thematic aspects of the release follow the development of modern cathedrals as a label, expressing existentialist themes centered around the search for meaning in a life that forbids it. the label art features photographs of the beautiful remains of one of detroits many unused churches

since laars epic crowdsurfing days touring with his former disco-band tog, laars has been honing his production skills with more metric music inspired by the classic godfathers patrick crowley and giorgio moroder for lysår/none 12inch. making playful, percussive house music with a disco heart is one of laars passions that comes into play on this 12inch. sampling hits from his favorite records, sweeping filters, playing on his juno 60 and having his band mates come in to play percussion and synthesizers over some of his grooves you can hear how much fun theyve been having making the record. the mysterious willy nickersen has remixed the songs into deeper territories complementing the record making it able to lift dance floors across the globe.

two cuts of futuristic laid back machine funk, channeling chunky juno keys, percussive rhythms and sweet flutters on the rhodes. backed up with a remix from k15, fresh from his work with henry wu and as culross close, who has retrofitted ‘hypnotise’ with a mesmerising 2-step groove and dubbed out 8-bit garage fx! lovingly pressed on 180g vinyl with sweet “crafty looking” hand stamped, labelled and numbered covers.

baertaub’s newest release wolke welcomes you with bazalt, a very tight and sharply shaped minimal techno track designed to awake your senses one by one from head to toe with small noisey cuts and bits that show their faces at certain times to draw a sonic geometrical map. next up is a relatively darker track rather than rain which again features those alien bits and is enriched with an unexpected and grande synth melody that somehow fits perfectly with the dark mood and alienating sound of the track. b side opens with the ztrl remix of bazalt which focuses on that witty geometrical face of the track and lifts it to an upper level with slowly building beats and hypnotizing loops. the ep closes off with the title track, wolke, which follows a very interesting trajectory: a tense sounding chord line is softened by a groovy bass and dubby touches and percussive samples which in the end provides an unexpectedly feel good ending to a positively minimal ep.

‘zibaldone i of cvx’ is the first in a series of releases from rupert clervaux (sian alice group, recent collaborations with beatrice dillon, spring heel jack, treader records...) which take their name from the title of italian poet giacomo leopardi’s extensive notebooks. they are collections of sketches, vignettes and musical footnotes to rupert’s ongoing and varied endeavours as a musician, listener, reader and writer. this first piece is in five sections (titles listed below), consisting of three thematic poetry recitals, read by clervaux and others over sweltering ambient arrangements, along with two clattering percussive tracks created using a variety of sounds across the fidelity spectrum and finely sourced, layered samples. the result is a meandering and diverse musical journey which threads together succinct meditations on originality by leopardi and silvina ocampo, and salutary warnings from hölderlin and derek walcott! ‘zibaldone i’ is presented as a 12” with a fold-out poster by belgian artist coline cornélis.

picking up where they left off three years ago, modern heads, the much-respected collaboration between gianluca meloni and dino sabatini, are back with a dynamic and intriguing four track ep. the duo go straight in here with the club-ready athena. throughout this track, tight percussive elements wind in and around one another, creating an ever-changing rhythm that you can only just hold onto. under this, tense synths pulse away, producing an opaque and insular atmosphere. next up, eumaeus lightens the mood somewhat, providing clarity with a distinct opening drum pattern. this mood doesnt last long though, as indiscernible, haunting vocals begin to echo in the distance, gradually moving closer and further in the mix as sharp pads swoosh either side. side b of the record opens with the deepest and longest track of the ep, eurycleia. simple yet unrelenting drums frame this hypnotic sci-fi episode, through which otherworldly screeches and rumbles reverberate over the twinkling sounds of machines. eurycleias atmosphere continues straight into the final track, laertes theme. this beatless piece takes eurycleias exploratory mood and extrapolates it over five and a half minutes, resulting in what feels like the perfect soundtrack to a glacial expedition in alien territory. as an ep this is a complete and coherent package, a perfect extension to modern heads previous work. the sound palette is familiar, yet refined, developed upon and taken further. the old beggar is undeniably worth the wait for anyone with a taste for the extraterrestrial.

tunnel signs is the nom de plume of australian born lover, fighter and romantic, ash moses. with a taste for playing and producing records that embrace the darkness, moses parts the sea and finds the wonky middle ground between reverb drenched postpunk, hypnotic techno and spaced out disco. having previously seen releases on labels such as nein, clouded vision and hakt he now finds a home with cutters records with this 12inch with will buck. the release, titled spirits came into existence when ash relocated to new york city, a place he had long dreamed of from afar. as luck would have it he found himself sharing an apartment with another likeminded electronic musician named will buck who became his studio-partner and eventual collaborator. having bonded over a shared love of synthesizers, drum machines and all things rhythm they soon began their own freeform jam sessions which paved the way for this 12inch release. spirits shares some of the slow hypnotic swagger and dark disco drone of red axes and multi culti but with a futuristic percussive palette of the likes of four tet. the heady modulated elastic synth sounds give way to deep undulating bass patterns and tribal percussion. on the flip, the lights get turned out and the acid turned up with an ominous techno rework courtesy of hivern discs own marc pino

halocyan outlines computer musics many future possibilities, while remaining actively mindful of its one and only history. having released material from such luminaries as dosem, paul woodford, oliver ho, extrawelt, and joey beltram - halocyan continues to assert its influence with their next record: a 2-part ep from apollo and r&s affiliate dave angel. founder of rotation records and originally hailing from chelsea, angel is a techno emissary whose intelligent, funk-licked productions have propelled him through a long and illustrious career through which he has consistently branded his own stamp on electronic music whilst also remaining highly relevant to modern listeners. its this that lends him perfectly to a record with halocyan who do what they do best in presenting his incoming ep: a sincerely-rooted collection that comes backed up by label favourite hackman on remix duties. portrait kicks things off with jubilant melodies rippling atop sharp, whetted percussion before minor-key sweeps bleed in and bring with them a degree of pensive tension. a buoyant bass line propels the track from dave angel incoming ep beneath before hackman offers up a deftly swung revision rich with his sturdy subs and idiosyncratic percussive flutters.

obbatuké are an 8-piece rumba group from santiago de cuba, lead by renowned quinto player carlos guerra. the band are mainstays at the casa del caribe, widely regarded as the epicentre for the eastern rumba scene.
rumba is a percussive-led genre descended from africa which was formed when mixed with spanish influences in the ports of havana and matanzas.
as innovators in the genre, obbatuké have been a huge inspiration to the manana project, and were involved in collaborations at this year’s event with plaid, quantic, nicolas jaar and london based breakthrough act, ariwo. this particular session was recorded at castlesound studios in edinburgh on the band’s first trip outside of cuba. it features three different sub-genres of rumba and an extended yoruba bata piece called orun seco.

the third minim various artist release draws in sounds from the global underground, skewering flavors of minimal, techno, tech house, and house on a four-pack of low-key burners. a1 finds muscovite rabotnic swerving the chug and thump of robotraffic on a path to -somewhere-, followed by belgian jerome.c’s picturesque -landscape- swooshing by on the motorik expressway. the flipside chimes in on coriesu & diego santana’s -moonlife-, a steady drive in the american rover along the sea of tranquility. the ep rounds out with netherlandic newcomer arenque’s percussive, atmospheric & soulful vocal trip -sfeerbad-.

after a run of new signings in 2016 - aus music kick of 2017 with something a little bit different. to inaugurate the new year they welcome in catz n dogz for three separate interpretations of classic records from the aus music archives. cherry picked from the vast back catalogue are tracks from bicep, geeeman and george fitzgerald all of which are given a rough, smoke treatment from the pets recordings owners. kicking things off is the remix of geemans wanna go bang he title track from his punchy 12-inch from 2015 that now sees a driving and percussive reworking. bicep the game is next in line a track from the irish duos first solo outing on aus back in 2013. soft, overlapping chords are propelled by snapping drums and multiple melodic lines that build an allaying palette the remix of george fitzgeralds hindsight then caps things off as more frazzled drums propel a stuttering vocal line and a warped synth pattern. continuing to keep things fresh - aus look ahead to another year of new signings and surprises and kick off here with a reminder of the solid foundation that has come before it
